[PHASE I] RETAIN TECH TALENT

WHY FOCUS ON RETENTION?

Currently, Buffalo area schools graduate more technology-trained students who leave Buffalo for employment,

than tech students who stay and work here locally.

The more of these talented students we can retain in our community once they graduate,

the wider the base of technology talent our area employers will have to draw from.

You can learn more about the tools we're developing for the Retention Phase of our program, below.

TOOLS TO HELP RETAIN TECH TALENT

INTERNSHIP & APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

We're developing and managing a formal, technology-specific internship and apprenticeship program that the entire community can use.

Enhancing the connectivity and experience of our students with our business community, while the students are still in school, increases the odds of retaining talented graduates.

STUDENT TALENT ATTRACTION TRAINING FOR EMPLOYERS & SCHOOLS

Every generation brings with them new and different talents, views, goals, and desires.

How do area employers connect and attract today's students?

Questions like these require education and training. We're here to help provide it.

SMALL GROUP SUPPORT & ENGAGEMENT

Our region's technology small groups are micro-communities that provide the opportunity for deeper connection of our area's technology professionals and students.

Better funding and people support of these small groups leads to more enhanced experiences for our technologists, and more stickiness to our region.

THE ITBUFFALO WEBSITE INITIATIVE

Individuals and organizations within our technology community need a virtual place where they can explore all that's available to them here locally.

A place where they can learn, connect with others, and access resources online.

A virtual hub for local tech community information increases awareness and connectivity, and decreases flight risk.

TECH COMMUNITY EVENTS

We'll be supporting and promoting large-scale tech community events put on by others in the in the community, and will be coordinating and hosting events of our own to fill in any gaps.

These events bring together our community, and they're a lot of fun - important factors to increasing talent retention.
